Spring Cleaning Hacks Featured Image

It’s time for you to grab your mop buckets and yellow rubber gloves; Spring is here! While that may sound exciting, it almost never is. Still, spring cleaning is a must for any home. From shower heads to door knobs, you’d be amazed at how dirty your commonly overlooked fixtures can get. To make this process easier for you, we've exhausted our resources to find the best tips to make your spring cleaning go quicker.

Your Sponge Needs to be Disinfected

You know that little yellow square you use to wipe counters and clean dishes; it gets dirty. If you’re like most people, you’ve rarely thought about it. Why would this object you use to clean get dirty? Doesn’t that defeat the purpose? Well, yes, it does...if you don’t clean it. The quickest way to clean your sponge is to rinse it, squeeze the water out, and microwave it for one minute. This will help to kill any lurking bacteria.

Give Your Garbage Disposal a Little TLC

Don’t neglect your garbage disposal during spring cleaning. All you need to do is cut up a lemon, drop it in, add salt and ice cubes, and let it wash away smelly odours and residue. It’s quicker and easier than you think.

Wash Your Windows

Your windows are much like your eyes. Your eyes are the gateway to your soul. Your windows are the gateway to home. Don’t let your windows make a bad impression on guests. For a quick, homemade window cleaning solution, mix white vinegar and warm water (equal parts), add a single teaspoon of dishwashing liquid, and stir it in several gallons of water. Remember not to wash your windows when the sun is shining. It will cause your windows to dry quickly and leave streaks behind.

Dust Creatively

Did you know that you can dust your furniture with dryer sheets? Not only is this a cheap substitute for electrostatic cloths, but it will leave behind a wonderful smell. You can even use an orphaned sock to handle those tight dusting areas. Dust from top to bottom to avoid the need for dusting the same surface twice.

What about the Water Rings?

Luckily, someone has faced this issue before and devised a simple plan to demolish those unattractive water rings. You’ll never have to panic when a guest doesn’t use a coaster, I’ve got the perfect solution. Try to erase the water rings with your hair dryer. All you have to do is blast the spot, on high heat, until it disappears. When it’s gone, grab the olive oil and rub the area to recondition your wood surface. It’ll look brand-new when you’re done.

Dishwashers Need to be Cleaned Too

What’s the point in using a dirty dishwasher to wash your dishes? There is none. Put your yellow rubber gloves on and remove any visible grime. Next, grab a dishwasher-safe cup, fill it with vinegar, and place it on the top shelf. Run your dishwasher on the hottest cycle it has. After that, you’ll need to sprinkle a cup of baking soda around the bottom of your dishwasher, and run it through a short cycle. Be sure to use the hottest water setting you have. Your dishwasher will look better than the day you installed it.

You Can Wash the Whole House in Your Dishwasher

We're kidding. Your house wouldn’t fit in the dishwasher, but a lot of things will! When you’re tackling your spring cleaning project, toss a few things in the dishwasher to get them clean quickly. You can wash things like hair brushes, pet dishes, plastic toys, soap dishes, door knobs, refrigerator shelves, and so much more. You can even toss your shower heads in there if they’re detachable. Not only will this save you time, but it’ll get them looking cleaner than any amount of scrubbing could have done.

You're Only As Clean As the Inside of Your Microwave

Let that sink in. Now, run to your microwave and judge your cleanliness. To remove old stains from inside your microwave, steam it before you scrub. Put one to two cups of water in a microwave-safe bowl, add two tablespoons of white vinegar, and a few drops of essential oil. Now run your microwave for five minutes. All you have to do is wipe it down, and you’re done. It’s as easy as that.

Now that you know how to get your spring cleaning done quickly, what are you waiting for? You can have the entire house cleaned in no time. With these helpful tips, you're sure to be relaxing before it's dinner time.
