Despite the community’s early start, development in Wedgewood Heights slowed significantly during the 1970s due to a decrease in demand for high-end single-family homes. Construction recommenced in the 1980s, however, and was mostly completed by the 1990s. The community's on-again, off-again development has resulted in a unique blend of expansive acreage estates and average-sized single-detached homes.

Front-attached homes include two-storey, four-level and bi-level splits. A few of the area's larger homes may include up to 5,000 square feet, six bedrooms, and three front-attached garages.
