Updating Your Home Decor for Autumn Featured Image

It seems as if everyone has a certain love affair with fall. The cooler weather and crisp, colourful leaves always elicit the wonderful feelings of home, family and warmth. This celebrated season of fantastic foliage and pumpkin pie can provide a wealth of inspiration for your interior décor. A few simple updates will invite the raw beauty of autumn into your home so you can enjoy the season indoors and out.

Warm Up Your Living Room

As cooler temperatures set in, you’ll want to create a warm, inviting living space to cozy into during your free time. Substitute accents made of lightweight summer fabrics for those crafted with rich velvet or fleece in gorgeous autumn hues. Just as you layer your clothing in the fall, you’ll want to put this same idea to use for your interior. Drape luxurious throws over your furniture and add an extra accent pillow for a truly warm spot to snuggle in to. If you have a fireplace, the coming chilly days make for a perfect time to add some extra warmth with a radiant, crackling fire. If you don’t have a fireplace in your home, a few candles can really brighten up any room (bonus points if they’re fall-scented!).

Create a Charming Entry

You’ll likely have many guests visiting in the fall, so you want to create an entryway that truly makes a statement. Liven up the front of your home with an assortment of colourful mums and seasonal pumpkins. The contrasting fall hues will brighten up your front entry and keep it fresh and inviting. If you desire a more primitive look, add a weathered vase filled with fall leaves atop a shabby-chic wooden bench. Top off your warm welcome by hanging a rustic harvest wreath on your door. We love wreaths with a natural twig base accented by flowers and fall foliage, like this one from Wind & Weather. If you’re especially crafty, you can even try making your own!

Spice up Your Home with the Beauty of Fall

No other season has a colour palette quite like fall. The beautiful hues range from golden yellow to deep rust and a collection of earthy browns to cheery orange. Any combination of these colours can really dress up your home to embody the spirit of the season. Autumn also plays host to a variety of environmental elements including the incredible foliage, naked tree branches and seasonal crops like corn and pumpkins. Swap bright summer decorations for those that emulate the natural colours of fall. Any surface in your home can be enhanced with a sprinkling of leaves or a couple of small pumpkins. Let your creativity run wild as you find different ways to incorporate nature’s beauty into your fall décor.

Invite Rich Autumn Hues to Your Table

There’s something so appealing about the food we eat in the fall – it’s one of the best times to incorporate seasonal produce into our recipes to make hearty soups, casseroles and (of course) pies. Your dining area should mirror this spirit with a lovely mix of autumn hues and accents. Create a traditional cornucopia centrepiece or a floral arrangement filled with bright sunflowers, colourful leaves and twigs to bring the fall spirit right to your table. Cozy up your dining chairs with a plush cushion and coordinating pillow to give your dinner guests premium comfort. This is also the perfect time to bring out the fine crystal and china as you prepare to host company for the holidays.

Autumn is truly a season to be celebrated. It’s a wonderful opportunity to spend time with loved ones, cuddle up next to a warm fire and embrace the spirit of the harvest. Finding inspiration in this season is easy, and by the time the leaves start changing, you’ll have a home ready for all the great things fall has to offer.
